Based on Foucault’s and Kohut’s concept of self, it has been asserted in this article that artwork is a self-object providing epistemic, ethical and aesthetic development of artist. For this purpose, first the concept of self has been discussed in terms of philosophy and psychology, then based on philosophical and psychological definitions of self, artwork has been conceptualized as a self-object.
