1483470296 EMBROIDERED “ÇEVRE HIRKA” SAMPLES IN TRADITIONAL WOMAN APPAREL IN BEYPAZARI REGION

Within historical process, Turkish clothing culture has exhibited variety and taken a significant place in our cultural heritage. In the apparels adopted in Anatolia peculiar to these regions for many years, such decorating features as form, technique, colour and motive were used in an aesthetic integrity. In woman clothing decorations, embroidery techniques are applied the most. The embroidery applied to beautify the clothes people wear and the goods they use are the ornamentations made on such clothes as cotton, linen, satin, velvet and broadcloth, on felt and leather with silver gilt thread and colourful threads with various needle techniques. Embroidery is the handicraft arts conveying the feelings of a community, the aesthetic values and cultural characteristics from one generation to another. Still maintaining traditional woman clothing culture in the current time, Beypazarı is a special town of the city of Ankara. Beypazarı region comes to the forefront with its special clothes, colours and embroidery in traditional woman apparel. It is a striking feature that the variety of embroidery in clothes has in terms of thread, technique, motive and colour. Embroidery clothes are worn in special occasions and head is covered with an embroidered kerchief. Cotton cardigans decorated with the embroidered borders and corner motives of this kerchief on their front, back sides are called “çevre hırka” in the region.The current study is of importance in terms of investigating, documenting the traditional clothes and embroidery reaching to the current time in the town of Beypazarı and introducing them to the future generations. In the study, traditional woman apparel was examined, kerchiefs, the use of çevre hırka and its embroidery were determined and samples were presented.
