1508162582 DETERMINATION OF MUSIC PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS’ KNOWLEDGE LEVELS AND PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED FOR THE PEDAL USAGE IN THE PIANO

Historically, the piano has constantly changed and developed. Pedal and pedal techniques, an important part of the piano, have also been influenced by this change. The piano is separated from other instruments in terms of its many features. Piano, as a solo and accompaniment instrument, it is an indispensable part of every stage of the music education process. Anton Rubinstein says, the pedal is the spirit of the piano. Pedal offers many different interpretation options to the interpreter. It can be said that a music teacher who does not know how to use the proper pedaling and different pedal techniques does not fully use the possibilities of the piano. Pedal education is an important part of piano education. Using pedal accurately and effectively, strengthens musical interpretation and contributes positively to performance. Therefore, the use of pedals in the piano is a very complex issue, but one that needs to be emphasized. However, pedal work in the contents of piano lessons in the music teacher education program is scarce. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to measure the level of knowledge about the use of pedals in the piano by music teacher candidates and to identify the problems they encounter. For this purpose, the data were collected by using the "Knowledge Level Examination Form for Using Pedal" which was prepared by researcher with expert opinion. The examination form consists of three open-ended, eight multiple choice and one cloze test. As a result of the research, knowledge level of music prospective teachers about pedal usage in the piano and the problems they encountered were determined and suggestions for solution were developed.
